We will travel to Montreal Sept. Were planning to stay at a small. Catherine Ouest "in the heart of the entertainment district". Seemed like a good location for exploring the city on foot with reasonable prices. Read somewhere that this is the Red Light District. Once I mentioned to my husband, wants me to cancel.
Is this the Red Light District? Is it safe? Another accommodation option is in Rue St. Hubert near the Berri Uquam Metro. Which would be safest and most accessible? Also which is closest to the Bus from Montreal Airport and later the bus service to Quebec? Can someone familiar with the area pls advise? Time is running short and we need to decide. Many thanks,. I remember the post where it was referred to as the Red Light district.
As a local, i found that very funny, it's not exactly the way we think about this place. I walked down there the other day and told my friends this, they looked at me funny I don't mean to downplay this but it's true. If your definition of a red light district is a seedy alley with 10 prostitutes and men in cars slowly driving by "shopping", this is not that kind of street. Late at night, there used to be prostitutes there but they have moved a bit, being pressured by police.
Yes absolutely. All areas in Montreal. It's also close to the action. The only problem is that it might get noisy at night. If you have an alternate nice hotel and that it matches your budget, go ahead an change but if it's too much trouble don't worry about it and stick to your hotel.
However, it's not a huge difference since the other is just a few blocks away and is close to Chinatown and the convenient Complexe Desjardins shopping mall which connects to the underground tunnels leading to Old Montreal and even to downtown although it's a big detour.
